Description

As part of the 10-day Mamangam Kovil Festival, a significant religious and cultural event that attracts devotees from Batticaloa and surrounding areas, the Lions Club of Batticaloa Spectrum for Humanity organized a community meal and refreshment service for devotees and visitors. During the festival period, many devotees travelled from other locations and stayed at the temple, creating a greater need for food and refreshments. The club provided cooked meals to approximately 3,000 people, ensuring nutritional support for devotees and visitors throughout the festival. In addition, ice cream was distributed to approximately 2,500 people, including devotees attending the temple. Ten Lions and 13 Lions’ family members actively participated in the preparation, cooking, transportation, distribution, and overall coordination of the service. The project involved a total expenditure of approximately LKR 850,000, including LKR 600,000 for food preparation, cooking, transportation, distribution, and logistics, and a further LKR 250,000 for the ice cream service conducted on 11 August. Through this large-scale service initiative, the Lions Club extended practical nutritional support and hospitality to thousands of devotees, strengthened community participation, and demonstrated Lions’ commitment to serving people during an important cultural and religious occasion.
