On 11th August 2026, the Lions Club of Batticaloa Singing Fish Leo, District 306 D10, conducted a community service project at Mahamangam Temple, Batticaloa, to support devotees participating in the Mahamangam Temple Thiruvizha. As part of this humanitarian initiative, a nutritious and freshly prepared brunch meal was provided to approximately 3,000 devotees who attended the religious festival. The primary objective of the project was to provide food and essential logistical support to devotees, particularly those who had travelled to participate in the religious observance, while promoting the Lions Clubs’ commitment to hunger relief, community welfare, service to humanity, and compassionate support for people irrespective of their background. In addition to the preparation and distribution of the cooked meals, the project team arranged a temporary shelter to facilitate the safe preparation, storage, and distribution of the food, while also providing a partially covered space where devotees could comfortably consume their meals. The temporary facilities helped ensure that the food distribution could be carried out in an organized, hygienic, and efficient manner despite the large number of beneficiaries attending the event. The total expenditure incurred for food preparation, cooking, transportation, distribution, and the associated temporary shelter and logistical arrangements amounted to approximately LKR 600,000.00. The entire cost of the project was generously contributed personally by the Project Chairperson, Lion Manoharan, Zone Chairperson – Zone 2, District 306 D10, demonstrating his personal commitment to community service and humanitarian assistance. The project was led and coordinated by Lion Manoharan, with the active participation of Lion Tharshan and Lion Kirushanth, who assisted with the necessary arrangements, preparation, coordination, food distribution, and overall implementation of the service activity. Through this initiative, approximately 3,000 devotees directly benefited from the provision of a nutritious meal and access to temporary facilities, while the project also contributed to the smooth and dignified conduct of the Mahamangam festival. The initiative reflects the Lions Clubs International commitment to serving communities, addressing basic human needs, supporting religious and community gatherings, and bringing practical assistance and goodwill to people in need. The successful completion of this project demonstrated the spirit of volunteerism, generosity, teamwork, and community leadership of the Lions Club and its members, creating a meaningful and positive social impact among the devotees and the wider community attending the Mahamangam Thiruvizha.
