Description A community-led tree-planting initiative carried out on the school grounds of Mylampavely Vigneswara Vidyalayam. Lions Club volunteers, school staff and students collaborated to plant the trees in school areas.
Objective
• Increase green cover and biodiversity on the school.
• Provide shade and improve microclimate for students and staff.
• Educate students and the community on tree care, environmental stewardship, and the benefits of urban greening.
• Establish a sustainable maintenance plan to ensure high survival rates of planted trees.
Outcomes
• Improved school aesthetics, increased awareness among students, and community engagement in environmental action.
Conclusion The project successfully mobilized the school and community to enhance the campus environment and foster environmental stewardship among students. With the established maintenance plan and continued support from the Lions Club, the planted trees are expected to survive and deliver long-term benefits—shade, improved air quality, and educational value. Continued monitoring and periodic community involvement will be essential to achieving the intended ecological and social outcomes.
