Due to the flooding caused by the breach of the Mavilaaru dam, dry ration packs and learning materials were distributed today to the people from Kallarippu who are sheltered at the Kathiraveli Vigneswara Junior School displacement camp. The distribution was carried out by the Eastern Province Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Varna Jayasundara.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Vakarai Pradeshiya Sabha, Hon. K. Theiventhran; Lions Club District Governor Mr. K. Lokendran PMJF.PMAF 306 D10; Batticaloa District Senior Superintendent of Police Lalith Liyanaratne; Valaichenai Regional Assistant Superintendent of Police Jayarool; Batticaloa Assistant Superintendent of Police Jameel; Valaichenai Lions Club President Lion MR. S. Kartheepan; and Lion Mr. U. Nirmalan.
A total of 65 families staying at the displacement camp each received a dry ration pack worth 7,000 rupees.
It is noteworthy that these relief items were donated by Lion Mr. Basil Raja PMJF, PMAF, a member of the Lions Club of Valaichenai Town 306 D 10
