Description

Empowering Young Minds: Fostering Savings Habits and Educational Support at Vinayagapuram Vinayagar Vidyalayam ​Demonstrating a strong commitment to long-term community development and financial literacy, the Lions Club of Valaichchenai Town successfully organized a special empowerment project on October 1, 2026, at Vinayagapuram Vinayagar Vidyalayam, Valaichchenai, in collaboration with the Regional Development Bank (RDB) Valaichchenai Branch. ​The event was held under the esteemed leadership of Club President Lion S. Yogarajah, MJF, with the active participation of Zone Chairperson Lion S. Kartheepan MJF, JP along with eight dedicated club members. Aligning with the visionary guidance of our honorable District Governor, Lion G. Zahir Ahmed PMJF, PMAF (for the 2026–2027 Lionistic year), this initiative focused on instilling early financial discipline and enhancing classroom learning infrastructure: ​Savings Accounts & Financial Literacy: To encourage early savings habits among young children, official savings accounts were successfully opened for a total of 67 students studying in Grade 1 and Grade 2 in partnership with the RDB Bank Valaichchenai Branch. An initial deposit of LKR 500/- per student was made, and official savings passbooks were presented to them. Furthermore, to ensure continuous savings, an RDB mobile banking unit was established at the school, with official arrangements made for bank officers to visit the school monthly to collect students' savings deposits. ​Classroom Infrastructure Support: Fulfilling a special request made by the school Principal, essential teaching aid Including whiteboards, markers, and dusters were generously donated for the benefit of the Grade 1 and Grade 2 classrooms. ​Total Project Expenditure: The total cost for this savings and educational support initiative amounted to LKR 60,500. ​This meaningful project successfully combined financial empowerment with educational support, laying a strong foundation for the students' bright futures through the spirit of Lionism—“We Serve.”
