On 10th August 2026, Sri Lanka Lions District 306 D10, under the leadership of 1st Vice District Governor Lion Aathithan, carried out a meaningful donation to support the Leo Club of Batticaloa APEX for their drug-prevention awareness programme, jointly organized with the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB), Batticaloa Branch. In response to a request from the Leo Club of Batticaloa APEX, Lion Aathithan, representing the Lions Club of Batticaloa Singing Fish Leo, generously donated five (05) professionally printed awareness banners and two thousand (2,000) printed awareness notices carrying important messages against drug usage and promoting awareness of the harmful physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences of drug abuse. The total value of the donated materials was approximately LKR 25,000.00, and the entire contribution was personally sponsored by the Project Chairperson, 1st Vice District Governor Lion Aathithan, as an in-kind community service contribution. The primary objective of this initiative was to strengthen public awareness on the dangers of drug abuse, particularly among young people, students, families, and the wider community, while supporting preventive education and encouraging individuals to make healthy and responsible choices free from substance abuse. The five awareness banners and 2,000 printed notices were provided to the Leo Club of Batticaloa APEX to be utilized as part of its awareness campaign conducted in collaboration with the NDDCB Batticaloa Branch, thereby extending the reach of the anti-drug message to a larger section of the community. The donation was formally handed over to the President of the Leo Club of Batticaloa APEX and the Leo team on 10th August 2026, marking a collaborative effort between Lions and Leos to address an important social issue affecting communities and young people. The project was led by Project Chairperson 1st Vice District Governor Lion Aathithan, with the active participation and support of key officers of the Lions Club of Batticaloa Singing Fish, including Club President Lion Kirushanth, Club Secretary Lion Vithushagan, Club Treasurer Lion Paranitharan, and Lion Pragan, Lions Lion Subashkaran, Lion Suthakaran, and Lion Dharshani. Through this initiative, the Lions Club provided practical support to the Leo Club’s awareness programme while helping create and disseminate positive messages on drug prevention and healthy living. The direct beneficiaries of the initiative include the members and volunteers of the Leo Club of Batticaloa APEX who received the materials for their awareness campaign, while the wider beneficiaries include young people, students, families, and members of the public who will be reached through the 2,000 awareness notices and public display of the five banners. The project demonstrates the Lions Clubs International commitment to supporting youth development, preventing substance abuse, promoting healthy communities, and empowering young people to become responsible citizens and advocates for positive social change. The collaboration among Lions, Leos, and the NDDCB Batticaloa Branch further strengthened the community impact of the initiative by combining resources, youth participation, institutional support, and public awareness toward the common goal of creating a safer and healthier drug-free community.
