The Lions Club of Batticaloa Singing Fish successfully conducted a communityHunger Relief Project – Meal Distribution for Kusalanamalai Murugan Kovil Pilgrims on 5th September 2026, providing dinner to approximately 1,500 pilgrims and devotees who had gathered for the first day of the Thiruvizha at Kusalana Malai Murugan Temple. The project was initiated in recognition of the significant physical effort undertaken by devotees who travelled long distances on foot and arrived at the temple premises during the night, often after many hours of walking and with limited access to adequate meals and refreshments along the route. As a timely and meaningful service to the community, the Club arranged and distributed nutritious meals to provide much-needed nourishment, energy and refreshment to the pilgrims after their long journey, contributing to their comfort and wellbeing during the religious observance. Approximately 20 Lions and volunteers actively participated in the preparation, coordination, distribution and overall execution of the project, contributing a total of approximately 160 volunteer hours. An investment of approximately Rs. 250,000/- was made towards the successful implementation of the project, enabling the Club to extend the service to a large number of devotees and conduct the programme on a larger and more effective scale. The First Vice District Governor Lion. Athithan graced the occasion with his presence and extended his support to the initiative, while the District Cabinet Secretary Lion Tharshan and members of the Batticaloa Singing Fish Lions Club, Leo Club of Batticaloa Apex, Leo club of Esoft Metro Campus Batticaloa also actively participated in the event. The Region Chairman and Zone Chairman were invited to attend; however, due to their official commitments and the last-minute arrangements, they were unable to participate. Overall, the project served as a timely humanitarian initiative that addressed an immediate need among the pilgrims, reflecting the Lions Club’s commitment to serving the community with compassion, responsibility and meaningful action, while strengthening the spirit of volunteerism and fellowship among its members.
